COPIES OF MARRIAGE LICENSE

At this time there is no accepting in-person marriage license applications.

Through collaboration with the Office of Judicial Administration, there is an online portal to apply for a marriage license.
The fee for the marriage license is $85.50. You will also be charged a $2.14 fee if you pay by credit or debit card, or a $1.25 fee if you pay by electronic check. The Clerk’s Office cannot take payment for the marriage license. It must be paid for through the online portal. You are welcome to use the Self-Help Center computers, located at the courthouse, to apply and pay for the marriage license.

How to obtain your marriage certificate

Certified marriage certificates after May 1, 1913 are available only from the Office of Vital Statistics https://www.kdheks.gov/vital/marriage_howto.html in Topeka.

To request marriage certificates you must:
  • Be a person named on the certificate
  • Be parents or immediate family names on the certificate
  • Be a legal representative (information must be in writing)
  • Be able to prove a direct interest (information must be in writing)
If you have been recently married, you should wait about 2 days after you have returned the completed marriage license before your request. This required form should have been provided to you when you received your marriage license.

To get an uncertified copy of a Marriage License from 1857 to 1969, you may contact Johnson County Archives and Records Management (https://www.jocogov.org/dept/records-and-tax-administration/archive-services/access-records) at (913) 715-0400.
