Youth Court is a voluntary alternative to the formal juvenile justice system in
which juvenile offenders are sentenced by their peers. The goal of Youth
Court is to reduce the number of youth entering the court system by providing
early intervention to youth who are truant or commit first time minor offenses.
Youth volunteers participate in the roles of: prosecuting and defense attorneys,
judges, jury members, and bailiffs.
The Youth Court program jointly offers "hands-on" experience in the legal system
to youth volunteers who are interested in:
- the Juvenile Justice System,
- a career in law,
- performing community service work,
- gaining experience in debate, forensics, or drama,
- or in positively intervening in the lives of their peers.
