Traffic Court is held in Room 107 of the Johnson County Courthouse at the following times:
  • Tuesday -- 2:00 and 3:00p.m. (Attorney plea docket)
  • Wednesday -- 9:00 and 10:30a.m. (Arraignments)
  • Wednesday -- 2:00p.m. (Pro se motions)
  • Thursday -- 9:00 (Go probation violations)
  • Thursday -- 9:30 and 10:30a.m. (non DUI trials)
  • Thursday -- 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30p.m. (DUI trials)

District Magistrate Judge Linda Trigg normally presides over cases heard in the Traffic division however District Magistrate Judge Michael Farley may hear some cases.

The Traffic Division of the Johnson County District Court hears the following types of traffic infraction cases when the tickets are issued by the Johnson County Sheriff's office or the Kansas Highway Patrol within Johnson County:

  • Speeding, stop sign tickets, etc.
  • Misdemeanor traffic violations
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DUI)
  • Driving while license suspended (DWS)
  • Expired license plates

In addition, the Traffic Division hears cases involving citations issued by the Johnson County Park Rangers and the Fish and Game Department.

The traffic division of the Court Clerk's Office is located in the northwest corner of the 2nd floor of the Johnson County Courthouse.  It is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Phone number: (913) 715-3470

Answers to common questions about Traffic Court:

Q: What happens if I do not appear in court when my case is set for hearing or trial?
A:  Your driver's license may be suspended or a bench warrant may be issued for your arrest or both may occur.

Q:  Can I make payments on fines?
A:  The Court orders that fines be paid within a certain time.   If the fine and costs total more than $300, payments in increments of $100 will be accepted.

Q:  Will you grant a continuance of a trial setting?
A:  Trial settings are only continued upon agreement of both parties or based on exceptional circumstances. Continuances are not granted if it is the party's second request.
