Recalculating
Recalculating: Consciously Exploring Conflict is a six week educational and skills focused class that provides the opportunity for individual parents to benefit from a deeper knowledge and understanding of what they can do to improve their experience of relationship conflict.

The skills discussed in the classes, when applied, can aid in cooperative parenting and reducing conflict for families. The skills focus on each individual participant. Specifically, each participant will be given information about what he or she can personally take responsibility for and what he or she can (and cannot) change. All information is designed to help empower each participant to make changes that can reduce stress and positively influence many areas of their lives.

Participants will gain a greater understanding of what they individually contribute to conflict, and learn specific skills to improve their conflict experiences. In part, the class will address the following:

  • How individual values, beliefs and boundaries contribute to the conflict in relationships
  • How to increase awareness / develop self-control around emotions, triggers and responses
  • How to understand the differences between defense mechanisms and coping skills
  • How taking personal responsibility and learning to ask for what you need can help reduce conflict

Eligibility: A court order is required. Parents must provide a copy of the order to Court Services to register, in advance, for the program.

Cost: $200 per person; includes all written materials and 12 hours (6 sessions, 2 hours each) of class time. The fee must be paid to the Clerk of the District Court in one of three ways: in person, at the Johnson County Courthouse; online at www.jococourts.org (click on the “Accounting” tab); or by phone 1-888-877-0450.
