Adult Volunteer Requirements

Any person who provides any service for our clients at the Residential Center, must attend a three hour training session. This is a standard which is set by our highest accreditation authority, the American Correctional Association, and Kansas Department of Corrections. Those who apply also must:

  • have a year's sobriety,
  • be able to pass a records check, and
  • must be nearing the end of their probation/parole, if applicable.

This training must be completed prior to any assignment in our facility. Our training is done four times each year and covers a wide range of topic such as:

  • Ethics
  • Manipulation
  • Emergency Procedures
  • Confidentiality
  • Guidelines for Volunteers
  • Dealing with Staff

Training includes a tour of our facility. Please bring a valid photo ID with you when you come to training. Do not bring food or drinks with you. We will keep the coffee on and provide a snack.

To reserve a place at the next training or if you have any questions please contact Carole Thrasher, Volunteer Coordinator at 913-829-0800 x 56342, or by e-mail at Carole.Thrasher@jocogov.org
